Cookie Policy
What cookies are, which ones this site sets, and the choices you have. This policy covers the essential cookies behind sign-in and free audits, how we measure performance, the advertising cookies Google AdSense may set, and how to control or delete cookies from your browser.
1. What cookies are and why we use them
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device. It lets the site recognise your browser between page loads and between visits. On its own a cookie cannot read other files, run code, or work out who you are.
We use cookies for the same reason they exist: to make the service work, and to make it work smoothly for you. They keep you signed in as you move between pages, remember how many free audits you have left so you are never counted twice, and — when advertising is enabled — let Google deliver and measure ads. We do not use cookies to profile you, and this site sets no analytics cookies today, as section 3 explains.
Your theme and your language choice are remembered in your browser’s local storage, which is not a cookie and never leaves your device. Clearing site data resets both.
2. Types of cookies we use
Every cookie this site can set — our own and those of the services we use — falls into one of three categories.
Essential cookies
These are necessary for the technical operation of the site and of the SEO tools. Without them the audit tool, sign-in and free-audit protection cannot function, so they are always on. The full list:
-
sesskeeps you signed in. It is HttpOnly, Secure and SameSite=Lax, expires after 30 days, and is cleared when you sign out. -
saqcounts your three free audits. It carries only a random token, is HttpOnly, and lasts up to a year. -
gstateis set only when you start a Continue with Google sign-in, lives for ten minutes, and is gone once the sign-in completes. -
The Cloudflare Turnstile human-verification widget, on the sign-up form, is
loaded from
challenges.cloudflare.comand sets its own cookies when it runs. It is only requested once a Turnstile site key is configured for the site; until then no such request is made.
Because these cookies are strictly necessary to deliver what a visitor explicitly asks for, they do not require consent under the GDPR or the ePrivacy Directive.
Performance and analytics cookies
These cookies would analyse traffic patterns and the performance of the audit tools. This site does not currently set any. Reliability and page speed are measured from server-side logs — aggregate counts of requests, errors and timings — which need no cookie and cannot follow you to another site.
If we ever enable an analytics tool that sets cookies, its name and purpose will be published in this section before it is switched on, and where the law requires it we will ask for your consent first.
Advertising cookies
Advertising on this site is served through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve targeted advertisements based on user behaviour: Google and its partners store and read advertising cookies on your device to select and personalise the ads shown here.
Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to seometric.agency and to other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google Ad and Content Network privacy policy.
You can review or limit personalised advertising at any time in Google’s Ads Settings. Where your consent is required by law before advertising cookies may be used, we will obtain it before those cookies are set. Our authorised advertising sellers are declared publicly in our ads.txt file.
When ads are shown, Google and its advertising partners may also use cookies and web beacons to deliver, limit and measure them. Our own use of web beacons is described in the Privacy policy.
3. How to control and delete cookies
You stay in control of the cookies on this site, in three ways:
- Browser settings: every browser lets you inspect the cookies a site has set, block them, and delete them — either for one site or for all sites. Look under your browser’s privacy or settings menu; the choice made there applies to every site you visit, not just this one.
- Industry opt-out: the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page lets you opt out of targeted advertising from its member companies across the web. Your choice is stored as an opt-out cookie, so it applies per browser and per device — repeat it wherever you want the choice to hold.
- Google specifically: the Ads Settings page lets you choose whether Google personalises the ads it serves to you, independently of the opt-out above.
Blocking or deleting the essential cookies has one effect: the site treats you as a brand-new visitor — you are signed out, your free-audit count restarts, and your theme and language reset. Nothing else is affected, and nothing breaks permanently; you can return to the state you had simply by signing in again.
4. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in the cookies we set or in the law. Material changes are published on this page. Where a change affects cookies that require consent, we will ask for that consent before those cookies are used.
